The star has handed over the full amount of his £25k award cash to the trust for venues, which works to protect the Britain's grassroots music venues.

Fender was given the cheque on 16 October as his latest record his work was chosen as the outstanding release of the last 12 months.

The musician has opted to donate the funds to the Music Venues Trust, in recognition of the vital role local spots played in his initial steps.

"As an artist couldn't be pursuing this success if it hadn't been for all the shows I performed around the area, and further afield, when I was starting out," stated Fender. "These locations are legendary, but they are in difficulty."

Beginning in 2023, over 150 of these locations have ceased operations – roughly 16 percent of the total UK scene.

Over the past year, top acts such as Pulp, Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Sheeran have all supported the MVT in its efforts to keep the scene afloat, by applying a minor surcharge to their admission fees, which supports local stages.

Sam Fender also participated, generating over £100k on his live tour to support 38 grassroots venues across England, Scotland, and Wales.

The donation helped venues that were facing imminent closure due to issues stemming from water damage, fires and family tragedies, as well as regulatory hurdles, legal disputes and sound issues.

Other venues obtained monetary aid in modernizing facilities and gear that helped performers and fans.

"The idea that money from performances in large arenas helps the local stages, where it begins for musicians like me, is just logical," Fender has said.

Fender is far from the only musician to give his Mercury Prize funds to good deeds.

That year, musician she split her award among a few organizations, such as the NSPCC and a charity for Sickle Cell.

"Additionally, I gave a grand to the center, to their gymnastics program, because I practiced gymnastics when I was a child and they required better apparatus," Ms Dynamite shared with the media.

Two years ago, the band contributed their funds to the youth organization that nurtured their group, as well as other independent music bodies.

And winners that year M People contributed their prize to a MS organization after a friend was found to have the disease.

"Winning was quite enough," remarked artist Small. "The money was the bonus but we didn't need the extra, because we had the main prize. So our victory touched another person's life."

Recently, the trust shared it had saved two small stages in south-east England, by transferring them to community ownership.

The first in Southampton and The Croft in that location were purchased under the public acquisition scheme, which is funded by a national body and supporters who acquire "stakes" in the venues.
